How to choose a monospaced font
In a monospaced font every character takes the same width, so columns line up and a line of code has a predictable length. That makes these fonts the usual choice for programming, terminals, logs, tables and typewriter-style design.
For code, what matters most is telling similar characters apart: zero and capital O, the digit 1, lowercase l and capital I. Some fonts also join sequences like -> and => into one symbol; that is a matter of taste.
