How to use your own font in Cricut Design Space

Design Space does not keep fonts of its own for your projects: under System it shows the fonts installed on your computer. So you install the font in your operating system once, and then you can use it in Design Space for free.

Steps

  1. Unzip the downloaded archive and install the font in your operating system (see the Windows or macOS installation guide).
  2. Close Design Space completely and open it again: it loads the system fonts when it starts.
  3. Start a new project and add a text box with the Text tool.
  4. Open the font list in the text toolbar and choose System, so that only the fonts installed on this computer are shown.
  5. Find the font by typing its name, select it and type your text.
  6. For a script font with connected letters, bring the letters closer with Letter Space, then select them and choose Weld so that the machine cuts them as one shape.
  7. Before cutting, zoom in and check the outline: very thin or very detailed fonts can be hard to cut.Cricut recommends simple fonts with smooth lines for cutting.

Tips

  • System fonts belong to the computer: install the font on every computer where you use Design Space.
  • Test a thin or detailed font on a scrap of paper or vinyl before the real cut.
  • These steps are for Design Space on Windows and macOS. The mobile apps work differently: see the Cricut Help Center.

Questions

Why is my font not in Design Space?

Check that the font is installed in the system, close Design Space completely and open it again, and choose System in the font list: the fonts of your computer are shown only there.

Do I need Cricut Access to use my own font?

No: Design Space shows the fonts installed on your computer and you can use them for free. Cricut Access is a separate subscription for the fonts and images of Cricut.

Does it work for Cyrillic or Kazakh letters?

Only if the font contains those letters. The font page in the catalogue shows which languages the font supports.
